On a laissé la chaudière s'encrasser [Someone forgot to clean the boiler]
This project marks a crucial stage in my career, since it led to my first solo exhibition in Montreal. This corpus is a reaction, and follow-up, to my years of bachelor study. In these paintings, my objective is to reflect on the system, and to see how the processes and applications we choose can affect the structure of an image. In a resolutely sensible approach to material and technique, I’ve established a visual vocabulary of a more formal nature. I have tried to distance myself from the dualism of abstract versus figurative art, as my concerns lie more with material, color, gesture, grid, form and sign. This corpus revolves around stratification, energy, and the breaking-up of frontiers in order to show the complexity of space and the diversity within systems.
